When it comes to studying the character and attributes of God, no study has been more meaningful for my students than the Names of God. I have now taught through the Names of God series a couple times in my years at Hazelwood, and it has always resulted in great conversation and solid theological learning.
Throughout the Old Testament, God receives multiple proper names. In almost every instance where God is given a name, the circumstances are miraculous and teach us something powerful about the character and provision of our God. Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Provides) was given when God provided a ram for Abraham’s sacrifice instead of Isaac. Jehovah Rapha (The Lord Heals) was given when God healed the water at Marah so the Israelites could drink. These stories are just a taste of what the Names of God series will communicate to your students.
