There’s an old African proverb that says, “alone we go fast, together we go far.” You might get things done quickly, but if you’re not giving away leadership to willing and awesome leaders on your team, you’ll find that the only place you’re headed is burnout. And you’ll get there real fast.
Try these three tips for SHARING your leadership to make your ministry run better and go farther:
1. Share your vision.
The team can’t help you accomplish the vision if they don’t know what you’re trying to do. So let them in. Share your dreams and goals, for tonight, next month, and the years to come.
2. Share your leadership.
Give away leadership at every opportunity. Find out what they’re capable of and give them RESPONSIBILITY and AUTHORITY (not just tasks to accomplish). Have to set up chairs, get the powerpoint up, start the music, open the snack bar, and print another copy of music for that vocalist that cannot remember the words? Empower your team to do these things.
3. Share the plan ahead of time.
Chances are, at least some of what has you running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off is that a few of these things are being done last-minute. Write down everything that needs to happen and identify people that are willing and able to take those things on.
That’s three ways. What else would you add? What other ways can you start to empower and build a team of leaders?
