Youth Group Game: Balloon Russian Roulette

We love games in Youth Ministry, and we always love finding new ones. Recently, we added a way for our awesome Youth Ministry Community to submit ideas, games and resources to the site, and Katy Johnston did just that with this game that sounds pretty awesome.

Here is what she gave us:

Balloon Russian Roulette.

Call up four volunteers. Give them a garbage bag with holes open for their head and arms before blindfolding the students. In a big box or plastic tote, have 20 balloons ready, of which four are filled with shaving cream. Once everyone is situated, help students grab a balloon out of the box. When everyone has a balloon, tell them they must pop it (we had forks ready, but they were able to pop them with their hands). Eliminate the student covered in shaving cream and continue on until only one player is left.

My only recommendation-make sure you have extra time to get the shaving cream in the balloons.

So let us know if you use this game, how it goes, and any ways you find to improve it. Thanks Katy for being our first submission!

      • I think thats what the box is for. Originally we were going to use a garbage bag, but the filled balloons sunk to the bottom and we ended up using a plastic tote instead. We used dark colored balloons and kept them the same size. Had I known that post were to tirn into a blog I would have been more specific in the directions. :)

  1. I think I would warn the students ahead of time so you don't mess up someone's clothes. They might not be too happy to have shaving cream on their new Aeropostale shirt.
    • Maybe. Shaving cream is our weapon of choice as its cheap and doesnt spoil. I plan to try filling the balloons with a funnel next time.

  2. Wow this is great. Thanks Ben! The creative masterminds at the national level of YFC brought me to this game. I definitely recommend it!

  4. This is a good idea in theory, the issue is the weight of the balloons with shaving cream in them. Surely they weigh more with shaving cream in them then without? Surely the students can tell which do, and do not have shaving cream in them.
