Adventure and time together - building relationships

As student ministers it is our job to build relationships with the students God has placed in our care. This is not an easy thing to do within the confines of a regular Wednesday night gathering; so what can you do? I have come to understand that if you are female you grow relationships with fellowship and if you are male then it is through a shared experience.

So for the month of December we have done that as a student ministry. Starting early on Wednesday nights we pull out snacks and have some fellowship time and we grow through conversation. A little later in the evening we put on a Christian performer video like Brock Gill or Tim Hawkins, then we can grow through a shared experience. This past Wednesday we showed the Tim Hawkins video “Insanitized” the students loved every minute of the show. Many of them are still talking about it on Facebook and they are inviting friends to come next week.

Let’s learn from each other on how to grow some relationships! Comment below and tell me what you have done that’s been successful in growing your youth group and deepening their relationships.

  1. I agree that we need to increase relationships. Would love to hear the why and how of this article too that gives youth workers direction for their ministry in incorporating loving relationships.
