The undiscovered truth's about Prayer: Spiritual Growth in Youth Ministry

Love this simple little poem from Leonard Ravenhill that my brother shared in the Youthmin Facebook group earlier today (which is different than our page, check it out if you haven’t already).

“There are, I am sure, acres of undiscovered truth about prayer in the Bible.

Prayer is the most unexplored area of the Christian Life.

Prayer is the most powerful weapon of the Christian Life.

Prayer is the most hell-feared battle in the Christian Life.
Prayer is the most secret device of the Christian Life.
Prayer is the most underestimated power in the Christian Life.
Prayer is the most untaught truth in the Christian Life.
Prayer is the most demanding exercise in the Christian Life.
Prayer is the most neglected responsibility in the Christian Life.
Prayer is the most conquering outreach in the Christian Life.
Prayer is the most opposed warfare in the Christian Life.
Prayer is the most far-reaching ministry in the Christian Life.”

- Leonard Ravenhill

I pray that the prayer lives of Youth Pastors would grow abundantly clearer, louder, strong, and persistent. The youth of this nation, though they are may not always be aware, need Youth Pastors to be Men and Women consumed in every thought with the Kingdom of God.

But as I sit and reflect on this, that first thought that Ravenhill shares, the idea that there are acres of undiscovered truth’s about prayer, I can’t help but wonder how we get there?

I know that for myself, something I always know I want to grow in is Prayer, and I know that I am not alone in that desire within the Youth Ministry Community. So how do we move from the realm of the known aspects of prayer where we are today, to the undiscovered truth’s that are waiting for us around the bend? How do we grow deeper in our prayer lives?

Of course there are the typical answers, well if you just pray more, or pray longer, or “Ask God to show them to you” which are all great, and I have faith that God can show you new truths about prayer and from prayer.

Those three things will grow you deeper in Prayer, let that not be mistaken. But I believe that you can also discover new truth’s about prayer by experiencing different methods of prayer, experiencing more corporate prayer, and focusing more on prayer.

With that in mind, what are ways we can help our teens discover new truth’s about Prayer and grow their spiritual depth in our Youth Ministries?

In my attempts to help our student ministry develop a deeper spiritual walk, I am putting an increased emphasis on prayer. We have begun to pray more than before and we are currently planning an activity that is nothing but prayer.
